“LA BOHEME”
AT MAJESTIC NEXT WEEK Noted opera singers, appearing in the opera “La Boheme” in Los Angeles, were the guests of Lillian Gish at the Metro-Goldwyn-Muyer studios at a private showing of her new starring vehicle, “La Boheme,” to enable the portrayers of the role on the opera stage to see it in dramatic form with music eliminated. That King Vidor’s “La Boheme” on the screen bids fair to cast a new influence on the traditional operatic performance is the belief of Aurelio Gallo, opera producer, who was among the guests. “After seeing the dramatic interpretation of Miss Gish. John Gilbert and the rest,” says Gallo, “no producer could be satisfied to go ahead on old lines. He would unconsciously seek to inject some of the drama brought out in the screen play, and I think that the film’s future influence on the opera will be an interesting development. I believe it a screen masterpiece.” The guests included Josephine Lucchcse, well known for her performance of “Mimi” on the operatic stage; Olga Kargau, whose “Musetta” is well known; Franco Tafuro, a noted “Rudolpho” of opera; Stella Be Santis, Aurelio Gallo, manager of the San Carlo Opera Company, Madame Gallo and several of his company. “La Boheme” will be screened at the Majestic Theatre next week.
