SHORE v. PONIES

Seasiders Will Face Challenge of Veteran Ponsonby Leaguers

TO-MORRO W’S RUGBY LEAGUE PROGRAMME THE chief attraction at Rugby League headquarters tomorrow afternoon will be a clash between Devonport, the team at present leading in the championship competition, and Ponsonby, a thirteen which has shown a marked improvement in recent games. A hard game should result.

Shore was last seen in action on Saturday week when it defeated Richmond, and on that day the seasiders played football which undoubtedly excelled anything seen at Carlaw Park this season. If they play as stylishly to-morrow as they did in the game against Richmond, then the Ponies will have a hard fight and odds appear against them. On the other hand there may be reason to believe that Shore is still the “iffers” of past seasons, and of course it is quite possible that another surprise is awaiting the fans to-morrow. Ponsonby has shown exceptional improvement recently, and in its defeat of the youthful Richmond ueaguers last week it was shown that the Ponies thirteen had struck form, and with the invaluable services of Delgrosso and other experienced backs it is a team capable of giving Shore a hard tussle. The other attraction on Carlaw Park will be the game between Marist and City. After City’s sensational victory over Newton last Saturday, it will be expected that City will again make a good showing to-morrow. Marist, on the other hand, has b/*n making a steady improvement, and may now be classed as a solid thirteen, capable of giving surprises. Marist’s chances certainly appear more bright than tli/se of City. , The match between Phlerslie and Richmond is being played at Carlaw Park at 10 o’clock on Monday morning.
