STILL MORE RIOTS
OUTBURSTS AGAINST ITALY FATAL BELGRADE FIGHTS j (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) ( Australian P.A.—United Service J Reed. 11.15 a.m. BELGRADE, Thurs. Sixty were taken to hospital as a result of yesterday’s rioting, and two cases proved fatal. Three persons were killed in the riots. Nine of the police were injured. Seventeen students and 43 others were arrested. Hundreds of students erected barricades against the mounted police. They hurled stones and seized chairs and tables from the largest restaurant in the city and used them as weapons. A wild riot ensued, and the police were forced to fire after all attempts to disperse the mob had failed. Another report says the gtudents fired several shots. The damage is estimated at £40,000. At to-day’s meeting of the Skupstina (National Assembly) the Opposition demanded a debate on the riots. This the Government refused, and members of the opposition banged the desks for an hour, compelling a suspension of the sitting. The authorities first sent firemen with hoses to quell the outbreak. The police then charged with fixed bayonets. It is understood that the Government, in replying to Italy’s demand for compensation, will counter-claim for the Yugoslavian’s losses in Italy.
