HOT APPLE CAKES rWELVE ounces flour, four apples, one teaspoon bakingpowder, 4 oz lord, 2oz brown sugar, one egg, milk to mix. Peel and core the apples and chop them up finely. Pub the lard well into this flour and baking-powder (sifted together), then add the sugar and fruit. Work in the egg (well beaten) and as much milk as is necessary to make a fairly dry paste. Put the mixture into a greased tin (it should n-ot be spread more than inch, deep) and bake in a moderate oven until well br&vried on top. Cut into fingers and serve very hot and well buttered.
