CONCERT AT WAIMAUKU
A large number of people from the Waimauku district attended a concert in the Coronation Hall on Wednesday evening. There was a wide variety of items on the programme, and after supply a dance was held. The proceeds, which over £ 12, will be devoted to the St. Martin’s Memorial Church funds-THAMES-HAURAKI HOCKEY On Wednesday evening the Thames Hockey Club combined with the Hauraki Plains Club to form the ThamesHauraki Hockey Association. The new association will control the game between Ngatea on the Hauraki Plains and the Coromandel Peninsula. An offer from Thames of the Crease Cup for district competition was accepted. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. J. C. Miller; president, My. L. C. Watson; senior vice-preside the president of the Ngatea club: junior vice-president, the president of the Kopuarahi Club; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. P. Jensen, Thames. PAPAKURA INTERESTS The mid-winter sale in connection with “Christ Church” was held yesterday in the Parish Hall. There was a good attendance, especially in the afternoon. The net result of the sale was £SO to the Ladies' Guild funds. The stalls were nicely decorated with flowers and greenery. The following were stall-holders: Bargain stall. Mesdames Mogrford, Muir and eKrnot; work stall, Mesdames Tasker, Eernasconi, Brendon and Sutton: fancy work stall, Mrs. Hope and Miss C. Wood; produce stall, Mesdames Jollyman and Woolley: sweet stall. Mesdames E. C. Foote and E. Hirst; cake stall, Mrs. T. C. Seaton and Miss Bernice Cosgrave; refreshment stall, Mesdames Cornford and Mills. Guessing competition: The cake was won by Mrs. Agmen Smith; the picture was won by Mr. F. Lound; the ham was won by Mrs. R Lound. PUKEKOHE ODDFELLOWS The investiture of officers of the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge, Manchester unity of Oddfellows, was held last evening, the District Grand Master, Bro. W. Gubb, and Bros. C. A. Ryder, P.G., of Loyal Franklin Lodge, officiating. Officers invested were:—N.G., Bro R. Pulman; V.G., Bro. I. W. Peterson: elective secretary, Sister T. Butcher; 1.P.N.G., Bro. W. NGATEA VETERINARY CLUB An increase in membership and an excess of assets over liabilities of £224 was reported by the president of the Farmers’ Veterinary Club, Mr. G. Xj. Davidson. The club’s surgeon, Mr. J. Costello, reported an improvement in the health of cattle as a result of the installation of fresh water supply schemes. He advised full attention being given to cattle hygiene during the winter. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. C. W. Schultz; vicepresidents, Messrs. R. Burke and A. Cleaver; committee, Messrs. W. Andrews, G. Phillips, E. W. Martin, W. McCarthy and Mcßaith; auditor, Mr. E. L. Walton; secretary, Mr. C. A. Gibson. TE AROHA AFFAIRS At the annual meeting of the Te Aroha Municipal Band, satisfaction was expressed at the payment of a debt for a set of new instruments. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mrs. A. Gordon; president, Mr. R. Coulter; bandmaster, Mr. H. S. Powell; deputybandmaster, Mr. W. T. Dickson; secretary, Mr. M. Cochrane; assistant-secre-tary, Mr. C. E. Christensen; sergeant, Mr. F. Mace; librarian, Mr. F. Robinson ; finance committee, Messrs. D. McMahon, G. Frith, G. L. Burmester, Caulton, Cater, Mace: band committee, bandmaster, deputy-bandmaster, sergeant and Messrs. Frith, Byrne, Hill and Cater. The Elstow Drainage Board, at its annual meeting, decided to ask the Hauraki United Drainage Board to bear part of the cost of draining the Elstow area of water from the Hauraki area.

DARGAVILLE NEWS The Rev. Chas. Chandler, of the Auckland City Mission, gave an interesting address before a large attendance at the International Hall on Tuesday evening. The speaker dealt with the good work being done by the mission in general, and that of assisting discharged prisoners in particular. In an appeal for financial assistance before the meeting closed, the gratifying amount of £4B in promises and £5 in cash was subscribed. Mr. Chandler intends to cover the whole of the diocese in his campaign—Dargaville being his first town. Mr. J. A. McLean was re-elected chairman of the Xlobson Electric Power Board at the fourth annual meeting held in Dargaville on Tuesday. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed that the board had begun the year with a credit balance of £543 17s lOd; and the balance being carried forward to next year is £475 6s 7d. It was decided to place £409 on fixed deposit for six months. The chairman pointed out, in reply, that Arapuni would not be ready for 18 months, and said that the delay in reticulating this district had been to the ratepayers’ advantage, as construction costs had been cut by half, and that they could now make a better bargain with the Government in regard .o power than had been the position three years ago. The Northern Wairoa Experimental Farm Society held a successful field day at their farm at Mangatara on Tuesday. Although the weather was inclement about 60 farm€ rs attended. A display of various types of harrows was the principal item of the day. A vacancy has been caused on the Dargaville Borough Council by the resignation of Cr. A. C. Paul. Cr. Paul was originally elected to the council eleven years ago, and since then has been on practically every committee. He has also filled the position of de-puty-Mayor. The loss of his services on the council will be regretted by the ratepayers because of the hard work be put in for them and also on acc/unt ot his practical knowledge. Mr. B. Berry, chairman of the Dargaville Businessmen’s Association, will be a candidate to fill the vacancy. Mr. Berry is manager of the Wairoa Stores. Ltd., and business abilities and general popularity will be gretalv in his favour should there be a contest.
