DUTY ON STOCK FOODS

FARMERS URGE REMOVAL (Special to THE SUN) MORRINSVILLE, Thursday. A deputation to the Prime Minister, headed by Mr. A. Ross, of Mangateparu, suggested that the duty on imported stock foods should be lifted. Mr. Ross submitted that, if imported foods were cheaper, farmers would be able to keep employees for late seasonal milking, which would relieve winter unemployment. Mr. Coates admitted that the 20 per cent, tariff on stock foods made it almost impossible for the average farmer to use them. He would give the point consideration, for personally he would like to encourage the use of auxiliary feed as he felt sure it would help farmers considerably.
