DUNEDIN FIXTURE THIS MORNING’S WORK FAVOURED CANDIDATES Press Association DUNEDIN, To-day. Though heavy rain fell in town during last night, there was not much at Wingatui, and the track was in fair condition for the final gallops. It was difficult to follow the times, as about 30 feet of track was available. Ronaki and Fairy Herald ran six in 1.20*, the last four in 53 2-5. Money Mine ran four in 54, the last three in 39 4-5, doing it easily. King Sol beat Strongbird over five in I.S 3-5. Overhaul, who is improving with every gallop, beat Black Mint and Heather Lad over a mil© in 1.50. Heather Lad was beaten off. A Likely Favourite Craigmore, who promises to start favourite in the Trial Hurdles, jumped two hurdles very attractively. Cupidon jumped badly. Royal Game moved well in heavy going in strong work. Puff easily accounted for Narrative in a sprint over three furlongs, and King Balboa was going better than Tip Tree over five, run in 1.7 2-5. Captain Sarto beat Guncase over six in 1.26 1-5. Queen Balboa and Bilbo, who had the best of the weights, finished together over six furlongs run at a strong pace. Solzia easily beat Cupid’s Dart, who appears to have gone off. Heisler ran over half a mile in 56, and Antrim Boy worked nicely at three-quarter pace and is very well. Overdrawn pleased track watchers, and with Overhaul will start favourite for the Birthday Handicap. Scamp, who looks very light, was restricted to two rounds at Royal Land" and Malmsey worked by themselves.
WENDAY OUT PENROSE HURDLES Wenday was withdrawn from her engagement in the Penrose Hurdle race at 11.10 a.m. to-day. Sunny Morn was scratched at 1.17 p.m. to-day for the Jervois Handicap. Ruby Ring was scratched for the Green Lane Steeples at 11.45 a.m. today. Perle de Leon was taken out of the Great Northern Hurdles at 2.20 p.m., to-day. This was expected. Golden Glass (2 p.m.), Parfait Amour (2.8 p.m.), and Marita and Prince Papa (2.9 p.m.) are other late scratchings. TO-NIGHT’S THE NIGHT THE ROTORUA INQUIRY SUSPENSE WILL SOON BE OVER It is expected that the inquiry into a certain race at Rotorua on February 11 last, of which a good deal has been heard of late weeks, will be finalised tonight, when the inquiry is to be held in Auckland. The race upon which the “inquest” is being conducted was the Pohutu Highweight Handicap, won by Dress Circle. Subsequently the connections of the horse were disqualified. The present inquiry is said to be investigating the doings of some jockeys concerned in the affair.
