NOTES Mrs. Wylds, Eltham, has returned from Auckland. Mrs. T. Harper, of Hamilton, is visiting Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. G. Stokes are visitors from Wellington to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Steel, of Christchurch, are visiting Auckland. * * * Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hart have taken up their residence at Hamilton. * * * Mr. and Mrs. R. Hannon, of Cambridge, are staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Campbell arrived in Auckland this morning from the South. * * * Mrs. Condell, of Christchurch, is visiting Auckland and will spend some months here. Mr. and Mrs. E. Riddiford arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Riddell, of Dannevirke, are on a motor tour of Auckland and the Hot Lakes districts. Miss Thelma Banks, who has been holidaying in Auckland for some weeks, has returned to Cambridge. 0 + • Miss Meg Kissling, of Auckland, who has been the guest of Mrs. Colin Taylor in Hamilton, has gone on to Gisborne. * * • Mrs. T. P. Short, of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, is visiting Aucklatad, and is the guest of Mrs. J. King, Princes Street. Mr. and Mrs. K. S. Hetherington, of Thames, and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Carthew, of New Plymouth, are at the Central Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pi slier and Mrs. Souter, of Cambridge, who have been the guests of Mrs. Wade in Auckland, have returned home. * * * Mr. and Mrs. F ; Bull are leaving Auckland with their family on Tuesday by the Aorangi. They will visit Canada and England. Miss Michael has resigned her position as science mistress at the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, having accepted a position in Gloucester, England. At the Grand Hotel are Mr. and Mrs. H. Campbell, of Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. J. Bull, of Hunterville; Mr. and Mrs. F. Rank, of England; and Mr. and Mrs. H. Wickham, of India. * * * Miss D. Hoskin and Miss A. Hutchinson, who had been on a walking tour to Dawson Falls, spent the weekend in Hamilton with Mrs. H. Hawkins, before returning to Auckland. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS ADDRESS BY HER EXCELLENCY With the view to forming a branch of the League of Mothers, her Exeel,'lency the Lady Alice Fergusson, Dor minion president, 'addressed a meeting in the Anglican schoolroom, .Three Kings, yesterday .afternoon. Representatives of the Remuera and other branches of the league were present, also the Revs. Smallfield and Scott and Mr. Stebbins. Mrs, Letham presided. In her address her Excellency outlined the aims and objects of the league, which were to set before mothers, particularly young mothers, a high ideal of motherhood, to bring them together in fellowship and to assist them in maintaining the homer influence that would create the highest type of citizenship. The value of teaching obedience, of self-control and the sacredness of the marriage tie was stressed and she urged mothers to exercise a very careful supervision over the amusements and the companions of their children. In Sweden there were special theatres and cinemas carefully chosen for children, and she thought the time was not far distant when New Zealand would follow the lead. There was much in the Victorian age that was very admirable, and what was needed was the adaptation of what was best in it to the present time. Short speeches were aiso made by the clergymen and Mr. Stebbins. Her Excellency Was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Haviland. TRINITY SOCIAL CLUB MAORI NIGHT A very enjoyable Maori evening was helld by the Otahuhu Holy Trinity Social Club, in the Public Hall, Otahuhu, on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance of members and friends, and dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mrs. Andrew’s Orchestra. Mr. H. Lovell was M.C.. Supper was served by the members of the club. The hall had been quaintly decorated. and. created quite a Maori atmosphere over the function. Prizes were awarded for the best Maori costumes to Miss Pankhurst, Miss McEwing and Mr. Lovell. A 50 CCournament was won by Mrs. Baird and Mr. Campbell, and consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs. Banks and Mr. Nixon.
