£25000 FOR DRAINAGE

WORK IN SUBURBS BRANCH SEWER EXTENSION The Local Bodies Loans Board has sanctioned the raising of £25,000 by the Auckland Suburban Drainage Board. The term is restricted to 21 years, but the board will ask to have it extended to 35 years. The works to be executed under the loam embrace the erection of a pump-ing-station at Point Chevalier. the completion of payments in connection with the branch sewer to drain additional areas in the One Tree Hill Road district, and the extension of the branch sewer along Meola Creek from the Mount Albert Grammar School to the Mount Eden borough boundary. This extension is designed to serve portions of the Mount Albert, Mount Eden and Mount Roskill districts. In reply to a question about the wearing properties of the drains put down by the board, the engineer and secretary informed the board last evening that the sewers laid down 14 years ago still showed no signs of deterioration. He estimated the work now being done would outlast 42 years. Messrs. J. H. Hubber and G. Newcombe, representing Tamaki and Orakei on the City Council, took their seats at the board table for the first time. Mr. H. B. Dobbie retains his seat on the board because of his reappointment as chairman of the One Tree Hill Road Board.
