LOST IN THE ARCTIC

NO WORD OF ITALIA A REPORT DISCOUNTED (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Reed. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. A United Press message from King’s Bay states that a supposed signal from General Nobile’s airship, Italia, was picked up at 10.10 on Sunday night by a sealing vessel. It was not reported earlier owing to the sealer’s wireless being out of order. Other reports discount the story, as the supply ship, Citta Di Milano, passed Amsterdam Island on Sunday, and saw nothing to indicate the Italia’s presence. Meanwhile a fierce snowstorm is delaying the departure of the investigation sledge party, which coasted in the ship Braganza, chartered by the Italian Government, en route to King’s Bay, and is attempting to pierce the pack-ice toward Franz Josef Land. The prevalence of north-westerlies discounts the theory that the Italia has been blown toward Alaska.
