NEW REGENT
DOUBLE FEATURE BILL “Serenade,” starring Adolph Menjou in a story of Vienna to-day, is being shown at the New Regent Theatre for the last two days. Menjou plays the part cf Franz Rossi, a young musical composer, who is inspired to write his greatest piece by the beauty of a young girl. He marries the girl and success comes to him until he is conducting his own operetta at the Grand Opera House. Continued success, however, turns his head and he forgets his beautiful young wife—the inspiration of his famous love song. Kathryn Carver plays the role of Gretclien, the wife, and supporting artists include Lawrence Grant and Lina Basquette. A colourful miniature musical comedy, and Florence Vidor starring in the picture, “Honeymoon Hate,” complete the programme. Commencing on Friday evening, the New Regent will show the most hilarious comedy ever seen in Auckland, “Tillie’s Punctured Romance,” with a particularly strong cast of comedians, headed by Chester Conklin, W. C. Fields and Louise Fazenda, and directed by the man who made “Behind the Front” and “We’re in the Navy Now.” The story is from an unusual angle and tells of a circus owned by Horatio Q. Frisbee (Chester Conklin), which goes to the war, including the lions, tamers and whole ensemble.- W. C. Fields is the ringmaster of the circus who, besides doing queer tricks with the lions and in the sawdust ring, falls in love with the heroine, Tilly, who has run away from home because of the glamour of circus-life. A delightful supporting musical programme will be given by Leslie V. Harvey at the Wurlitzer, and the Regent Operatic Orchestra under the baton of Arthur G. Frost.
