CHATHAM CUP DRAW THISTLE PLAYS PONSONBY AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION MEETS The draw for the local round of the Chatham Cup competition was made at the meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Football Association last evening-, the matches to be played possibly on Saturday week. Ponsonby (holders) meet Thistle and Y.M.C.A. plays Belmont; Tramways having withdrawn from the competition. Mr. Fulbrook, the Northcote delegate, stated that the competition was a most ridiculous one. Mr. Baker moved that the A.F.A.’s minute warning clubs that in the event of their reaching the final and having to travel, they could expect no financial assistance from the A.F.A. be rescinded, and the matter reconsidered. The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. Mr. Brew, the Tramways delegate, said that ordering-off by referees without first issuing a warning was becoming too frequent. He thought in some cases an apology was due from the referee concerned. The impression had got abroad, he said, that Soccer was a ladies’ game. The question is to be brought before the Referees’ Association.

At the request of the Referees’ Association, the committee decided that in future all the early games on Blandford Park must cease not later than 3.5 p.m. Permission was granted the Belmont Club to play Hamilton Wanderers at Hamilton on the King’s Birthday; and the Tamaki Club to play Waihi at Auckland on the same day. Betters were received from the Auckland Rugby Union and the Auckland Rugby League stating that they were willing to meet the A.F.jL in conference to come to some arrangement between the three football codes with regard to unfinancial or disqualified players from one code, playing another code

The following transfers were approved:—Griffiths, from Eden Rovers to Ponsonby; Creamer, from Belmont to Ponsonby; Knight, from New Lynn to Tamaki; Orford, from Northcote to Thistle; Cornwell, from Tramways to Newmarket; Bush, of North Shore, was regraded from Senior to third grade; Galloway, Belmont, from senior to fifth grade; and Malcolm, Y.M.C.A., from senior to third grade intermediate.
