OCEAN MAIL ROUTES
REQUIREMENTS OF NEW AMERICAN ACT AUSTRALIAN SERVICES (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) Rec. 9.5 a.m. WASHINGTON, Sunday. Acting under the provisions of the new Jones-White Merchant Marino Act, the Postmaster-General, Mr. Harry S. New, sent a communication to the United States Shipping Board, certifying the seven ocean mail routes which should be established or operated for the carrying of mails, as contemplated by the Act. These routes are already under contract, but Mr. New desires that they be included under the provisions of the new meas Lire. One of the routes is that from San Francisco to Sydney, with monthly sailings. an annual mail poundage of 2,217 859. and an estimated five-year volume of poundage of 12,198,224. It is not known whether the Post Office contemplates any change of the line carrying Australian mail when the present contract ends.
