EXPLOSIONS IN FIRE
EMBERS THROWN INTO ROOM (Special to THE SUN) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. A sudden explosion in a fireplace in the house of Mr. P. W. Roberts, Mahoe Street, Fitzroy, on Friday evening, scattered sparks and embers about the sitting-room. A few minutes later there was another explosion, and then, in fairly quick succession, three more. When Mr. Roberts examined the fireplace afterwards he found that a hole about 12in. across had been blown in the concrete bed of the fireplace. Mr. Roberts is making investigations to find out the cause of the explosions.
