PRINCE EDWARD
“THE VOLGA BOATMEN” The fifth picture to be shown at the Prince Edward Theatre on the “Old Favourites’ Night” will be “The Volga Boatmen,” which will be presented this evening. “The Volga Boatmen” will be remembered by those who saw it first over a year ago as a powerful and dramatic story of the love of a poor Volga boatman for a princess of high rank, of the war between the Whites and the Reds, and of the terrible punishment meted out to those who abused their position and power. It is a story of Russia in the throes of her revolution, and of the boatmen on the Volga patiently hauling great barges by sheer strength and courage. A strong vaudeville programme will also be presented, headed by Baby Olar, New Zealand’s wonder child, a trapeze artist and contortionist of remarkable ability, assisted by a troupe of performing dogs.
Mr. Clarence Brown, a prominent Metro-Gold w>*n director, has purchased the film rights to “The Shannons of Broadway.” The plans for Mr. Brown to direct Greta Garbo in “Java” have been altered, and he will now direct John Gilbert and Miss Garbo in “The Sun in St. Moritz.”
