MEMBERS IMPRESSED
WORK AT KOWHAI SCHOOL Five members of Parliament, Messrs. W. J. Jordan, J. A. Lee, H. G. R. Mason, A. Harris and M. J. Savage, spent two hours at Kowhai Junior High School this morning. During this time they visited all departments and watched the children at drill and at play. They were all greatly impressed by the brightness of the pupils and the keen personal interest taken in their instruction^ This visit was arranged by Mr. H. G. R. Mason, through the kindness of Mr. R. E. Rudman, principal of Kowhai. All members were invited to see at firsthand the methods of a Junior High School and to form some opinion of its success! “The school certainly serves its purpose,” said Mr. Jordan this morning after the tour of inspection. “A child coming directly out of a primary school has no definite views as to whether his career should be professional or in the trades. This course brings children in contact with all the trades and professions and allows each one to try his skill. Any aptitude is carefully noted.” This is the only actual Junior High School in the Dominion, although the work is touched on slightly by technical schools and by the higher standards of some of the primary schools.
