LATEST FANCIES FOR ELLERSLIE

V\ T ITH the publication of acceptances for the big events at the forthcoming Auckland winter meeting, it is recognised that the fields in the two Northerns at least will be of a handy size. Barring mishaps between now and Saturday next, there will be 12 or 13 runners in the Great Northern Hurdles; but for the Great Northern Steeplechase it is doubtful if the starters will exceed 11. The Cornwall Handicap and the sprint will both be contested by the usual large fields. The three principal events on the opening day, together with the big scteeplechase the second day, “Early Bird” expects to see fought out between the following: Great Northern Hurdles.—Wedding March, Perle de Leon, Aberfeldy, and Beau Cavalier. Great Northern Steeplechase.— Beau Cavalier, Brigadier Bill, Maunga, and Wiltshire (or Glendowie in place of the last-named if heavy going is expected). Cornwall Handicap.—Yoma, High Pitch, Corinax, and Stormy. Members’ Handicap.—Nancy Lee, Royal Tea, Kingfield, and Sir Archie. The final review of the first day’s fields will appear as usual on Friday next.
