N.Z. FRUIT SENT FROM LONDON TO BRAZIL
(United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) Reed. 10.20 a.m. LONDON, Friday.
The Argyllshire’s New Zealand apples sold as follow: Dunns, Delicious, 11$, 12s; Lord Wolseleys, 10s 6d, 11s; Jonathan 10s 6d, 12s. An interesting development is the exportation from London this week of 66,558 boxes of New Zealand apples to Brazil. It is understood the Union Cold Storage Company purchased them at current market prices and shipped 4,000 cases to Santos and 2,556 to Rio de Janiero, by the Blue Star liner Avila.
Before the Panama Canal was opened direct shipments used to be made to South America from New Zealand. The apples always realised excellent prices. If the present shipment is equally successful, others may follow, as meatcarriers returning to the Argentine offer an abundance of refrigerated space. Traders here would welcome further exports to South America, as this would relieve the congestion in England.
