W Oman’s £22,000 T aken

HER DAUGHTER CHARGED Melboiirne Case Dismissed (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) Received 10.40 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. DEAEL CRESSY, a married woman, was charged in the Caulfield Court with stealing banknotes valued at E 22,000, the property of her mother, Gertrude Palmer, who gave evidence reluctantly and somewhat incoherently.

She said her daughter advised her to convert Government bonds balued at £22,000 into cash, and reinvest it in mortgages at 8 per cent . which was a better proposition. To this the mother acquiesced. The cash was brought home, and hidden in a sofa and a gas-stove. On the fqllowing morning the

daughter Cressy rose earlier, much earlier than usual, and rushed into her mother’s room and exclaimed: “The money has been stolen!” The daughter after that was opulent. She bought a car, dressed expensively, and offered to take her mother on a trip to England. The case was dismissed.
