NEW FILMS ACT NOW IN FORCE
BRITISH PRODUCTIONS Famous Lasky Corporation, with 60 to 65 films, have arranged to acquire British productions of Welsh Pearson Co., and some two-reel films from British Filmcraft. Fox Film Co., with about 50 of their own films, have entered into an arrangement with British Instructional Films, Ltd., to produce for them the British films they will require. Allied Artists Corporation—which distributes the pictures of Chaplin. Fairbanks, Mary Pick ford and Samuel Goldwyn's productions—and Producers Distributing Co., Ltd., which handle about 40 pictures a year, have made no arrangements. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation, which handle 40 to 50 films, are negotiating for their quota. This is all due to the coming into force of the Cinematograph Films Act,
passed to stimulate the production British films. It concerns all engaged |in renting films in England. Every renting firm, until April 1, 1929, must have at least 7\ p-r cent, of British films in the totai number of pictures handled by them. So far, the majority of the American film firms seem to have made few arrangements to acquire for distribution in England the British films they •' will need during the next twelve months.
