BEARERS OF “GOOD NEWS”
“Gracious, Mr. Galway, do you expect a girl to go to hell in a wheelbarrow?” The “Follies” girl of flamboyant charm who utters this declaration in “The Trial of Mary Dugan” at Melbourne Theatre Royal is Noel Boyd. Her portrait of this “type” has brought her a lot of attention from Press and public. Noel Boyd was born in England. Her mother came from Adelaide and her father was in the Navy. "When he died mother and daughter settled in South Australia. Noel joined the Adelaide Repertory Theatre, her first
part being the daughter in Galsworthy’s “Windows.” After a couple of years of grounding of this excellent kind she joined the “Tell Me More” chorus for a fortnight, and then played her first professional part in “Six Cylinder Dove.” She next transferred to the Muriel Starr Company and played in a long repertoire. A change of bill every week gave her wonderful experience. The firm recognised her ability when they gave her a lengthy engagement, and her I stage prospects are considered excel- ! lent.
