The car is, of necessity, stalionary, but a realistic impression o£ speed is obtained by the ingenious arrangement of the scenery which, electrically propelled, moves swiftly past the windows. The two occupants —model figures representing a lady and a child—add to the realism of the display, while the illusion of the movement is strengthened by a fluttering handkerchief held by the child at the open window. The compartment is of ihe "birdcage” type and contains the latest travelling amenities. The department’s most recent innovation, the railway luncheon hamper, #vhich is becoming increasingly popular with travellers, is attractively displayed and is an effective feature of the exhibit. The display illustrates in a most convincing manner that the Railway Department is sincere in its efforts to Provide the public with up-to-date facilities. At adjoining stalls there is a fine collection of scenic photographs and a display of posters illustrates the excellence of the work being done by the railway advertising branch. An electrically-operated train travelling across a picturesque panorama illustrates the publicity value of the department’s roadside signs. The Overseas Publicity Board and eDpartment of Industries and Commerce exhibits in graphic form the great progress the Dominion has made in recent years in external and internal trade. It is the intention of the Railway Department o transfer the exhibit to the Waikato "inter Show opening next week. —1.
