Serious Charges. —Pive charges of alleged incest were preferred against J. H. J. Johnstone, farmer, of Xethorton (Mr. J. J. Sullivan), in the Paeroa Police Court yesterday, before justices of the peace. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Winter in Christchurch. —Heavy rain from the south-west and snow on the Port I-lills gave Christchurch its first spell of real winter on Wednesday night. The weather yesterday was very cold and showery.
