Auckland Leaguers “Shine” at Home

DAVIDSON HITS FORM FOUR TRIES TO’ BROWN In a recent big Rugby League clash in England between Wigan and St. Helens, the two ex-Auck-land leaguers, Lou Brown and Ben Davidson, of the former team, were the two shining lights of the day. 4 CCORDIXG to the “Daily Chronicle,” the deadly tackling of the Wigan threequarter line was the real downfall of St. Helens. Davidson put

up a wonderful defence, and was conspicuous on the attack, giving his fellow-Maorilander, Lou Brown, many well-timed passes. The result was that Brown was frequently racing for the line, and he scored four brilliant tries. Wigan at one time looked like hav-

ing to make a struggle for victory, but Brown’s brilliance settled the issue. Lou is undoubtedly playing wonderful football, and it is most pleasing indeed to learn that Ben Davidson has struck form. For some time Ben seemed off-colour, and could not get into his stride. In his last four or five games, however, he has displayed

some of his old ability, and so has become one of the favourites among the Rugby League fans in England. Over 20,000 spectators witnessed the game between Wigan and St. Helens, and it resulted in a win for the former club by 21 points to 11, this being Wigan’s thirty-fifth victory in the last 39 games against St. Helens.
