CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPS.

DOMINION 10,000 METRES FIXED FOR WANGANUI The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has allotted the 1928 Dominion 10,000 metres cross-country championship to the Wanganui-Tara-naki centre, and the meeting is to be held at Wanganui on Saturday, July 21. This is earlier in the year than last season, so Auckland’s crack crosscountry men are losing no time in getting under weigh with serious training. Auckland was represented last year by J. W. Savidan, Gordon Kells, N. Cooper and C. Scown. Savidan, Kells and Cooper have all been displaying fine form so far this season and can be depended upon to give a good account of themselves at Wanganui. (Fine cross-country men) They are almost certainties for the trip. C. Scown has not been well of late and is expected to make his first

appearance on the track at Mangere to-morrow. He will no doubt be a strong candidate for the trip again this year, while it is said that Prosser, of the Waikato Club, will be a strong contender for a place in the Auckland provincial team also. It was the intention to decide the Auckland cross-country championships toward the end of July, but it will be necessary to bring these events forward so as to assist in the selection of the team for Wanganui. The New Zealand cross-country championship race is an annual event, to decide the individual and interprovincial teams championships, and is contested over a distance of 6* miles. No competition shall take place unless two centres are represented by teams, such teams to consist of six runners, four to count for points in the teams race. Two individual competitors may be also allowed from each centre. Last year was the first occasion on which each centre in New Zealand was represented in these championships. J. W. Savidan was first man home at Cashmere Hills, Christchurch.
