j “REALISATION OF DREAM” ' "Meeting New Zealanders face to face : has been the realisation of a dream, ■ and if 1 have been of any service to I you. rest assured that you have been of great service and interest to me.” Miss Maude Royden, the famous | ; English feminist, was warmly greeted | |at the Auckland Lyceum Club last j night, when she attended a reception in j her honour, accompanied by the May- j oress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, j Several former school fellows from | | Cheltenham, Miss Hoyden's old school, . i were there to greet her. i There was a. band of gold ribbon on ! one shoulder of Miss Hoyden’s gold brocaded lame frock. It crossed over the bodice and was caught on the hip I with a buckle of diamante. The guest jof honour carried a bouquet of pink | carnations and violets. Miss Collisson, her secretary, wore a frock of gold lame | and georgette, with a fur collar. Shell-pink georgette, embossed in j , tones of blue and red, were the colj ours of the Mayoress’s gown. The I club president, Mrs. W. H. Parkes, was |in black satin with rhinestone trimI ming, and a pink flower decorated one ) shoulder of her frock. j Luring the evening a programme was contributed by Mrs. Hutchinson (piano), Mrs. Hesketh (violin) and Miss O. Lloyd (’cello); Miss Mavis Grevatt, liarp solo, Miss Maida Hooker, pianoforte solos. Miss Berta Carr and Mrs. Harold King sang. Among those present were:—Mrs. Alan Mulgan, Mrs. J. Cook, Miss Jean Begg, Miss B. E. Carnachan, Mrs. V. Macky, Mrs. B. Cadoux, Mrs. Ryburn, Mrs. Axford, Mrs. F. W. Wilson, Mrs. Stuart Boyd, Mrs. A. Mrs. Duncan Clark, Mrs. Bruce McKenzie, Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Hirst, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Woods, Miss Vera Hay, Miss Quayle, Miss Wilson, Miss E. K. Morton, Miss Johnson, Miss Barton, Miss Robertson, Miss Dash, Miss Ernest, Miss Clouston, Miss Luxford and Dr. Mildred Staley. MANGERE CROQUET FIVE HUNDRED EVENING A very enjoyable 500 tournament was held in the supper room of the Mangere East Public Hall on Wednesday evening by the members of the Manger© East Croquet Clubs. After some keen games prizes were awarded to: Mr. G. Laslett, first; Mr. Burret, sen., consolation; Mrs. Ben- ; nett, first; Mrs. Ellison, consolation i Supper was served by’the members of the club. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Marjorie, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Benseman. of Ngahape, to Gervas Charles, elder son of LieutColonel L. F. Wylde, 0.8.
