PENWOMEN’S LEAGUE
MUSICAL EVENING I The large audience which assembled in the lecture hall of the Women’s Club on Tuesday evening enjoyed an exceptionally interesting programme. Miss Renee Satchwell gave a delightful address on “Robert and Clara Schumann,” describing their youthful days, reading extracts from their letters, giving in detail their musical triumphs and stressing the beneficial influence they exerted in the musical world. These gifted musicians had a most sympathetic exponent in Miss Satchwell, who also gave an artistic rendering of some.of Robert Schumann’s pianoforte compositions, including “Papillons," “Carnaval,” and the “Novelletteu" (Op. 21, No. 2). The songs given by Miss Hansard, “Spring Night” and “The Almond Tree," gave much pleasure. Miss Amy Stevenson and Miss Judson gave a most musicianly rendering of the Allegro from the violin Sonata. Miss Etta Field’s interpretation of the songs, “Devotion,” “Little Green Hat" and “Dreaming,” received well-merited applause. The Penwomen’s Trio, Mrs. Bloy, Miss Isobel Langlands and Miss Marjorie Tiarks ably performed the “Fantasiestiiche,” receiving well deserved applause at the conclusion of the programme.
