WIVES ASK FOR DIVORCE

PARTIES IN SYDNEY CIVIC SCANDAL (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Wednesday. Mrs. Georgina Albert has filed a petition for a divorce from her husband, Arthur H. Albert, who figured prominently before the Civic Royal' Commission. Martha Gordon, also prominent at the inquiry, is named in the petition. Arthur H. Albert, whose wife is suing for a divorce, is a marine diver and moneylender. According to the evidence given before the Royal Commission which is inquiring into the allegations of graft during the regime of the late Sydney City Council, the former deputymanager of the city electrical works, Silas Y. Maling, asked Albert to allow a remittance of £10,600 from London to be paid into his banking account. Albert refused, but he persuaded Francis Buckle to let the amount be paid into the latter's account. Martha Gordon was said to have acted as clerk to Albert, and to have paid out some of the £10,600 in instalments to Maling. In her own evidence, she said she had previously been a housekeeper. A cablegram from Sydney published on Monday stated that Mrs. Olive Maling had filed a petition for a divorce from her husband, Silas Y. Maling. A copy of the petition had also been served upon Mrs. Pittock, who was referred to in the course of the evidence given before the commission on the previous Friday.
