MOTORS FILL HOSPITALS

THOUSANDS OF ACCIDENTS OTHER PATIENTS KEPT OUT (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P.A. —United Service) LONDON, Tuesday. The Minister of Transport, Colonel W. W. Ashley, stated in the House of Commons that there was no evidence that a substantial proportion of motor fatalities and accidents was due to drivers’ lack of capacity. That would be disclosed in the driving test. Mr. W. Limn, Labour member for Rothwell, Yorkshire, said 100,000 motor accident cases were treated last year, at a cost to the voluntary hospitals of £500,000. Consequently thousands of the people for whom these hospitals were built could not be treated. The Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Sir Kingsley Wood, said the matter would be considered when the commission on voluntary hospitals had submitted its report.
