The Rev. A. W. Payne arrived from Wellington this morning. jj r . William Goodfellow returned to Auckland this morning from Wellington. The Rev. Dr. James Gibb, of Wellington, arrived from the South by the Limited this morning. The Hon. George Fowlds returned to Auckland this morning from the South. H. D. Thomson, Under-Secre-tary of Immigration, is staying at the Central Hotel. Major H. S. Robinson, secretary of the Melanesian Mission Board, returned from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Sergeant P. Felton will take over the control of the Ntwton Police Station to-day until a permanent appointment has been made. Professor H. G. Denham, of Canterbury College, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited. He was accompanied by Mrs. Denham. Mr. Ken Ballantyne, of Christchurch, arrived by the Limited this morning. He is staying at the Grand Hotel and will leave for Sydney by the Marama to-morrow. Mr. J. Lamb, of Te Aroha, and Mrs. Lamb, leave by the Marama on Friday for Sydney, where they will remain during the winter. They are at the Central Hotel. The Hon. Sir Maui Pomare, Act-ing-Minister of Internal Affairs, arrived from Wellington this morning. To-day he conducted departmental business and will leave for Opua tomorrow. Mr. A. H. Briasco, county clerk, and Mr. W. J. Gray, engineer to the Tauranga County Council, have resigned their positions. Mr. C. Todd, as president of the New Zealand Alliance, received a vote of confidence and was thanked for his services in the cause of prohibition, at last evening's meeting of the standing committee of the New Zealand Alliance in Wellington. Professor Wall and his daughter Edith, who left Christchurch in October, spent three weeks in Ceylon. They spent the winter in Rome and visited Florence, Perugia, Milan and Montreux. After a week in Paris they travelled to London by air. Mr. J. H. Rogge, who is visiting New Zealand on behalf of Dutch and Javanese newspapers, will leave Auckland to-night for Wellington by tho Main Trunk express. Mr. Rogge will join the Aorangi at Auckland for Suva and the Islands. Mr. Arthur Hirst, the well-known pianist, is contemplating a six months’ visit to New Zealand, which he left nearly 20 years ago. As an officer of the Bank of New Zealand Mr. Hirst was stationed in many different parts of the country.
