FARMERS IN POLITICS
“A FIGHTING FORCE” MR. POLSON’S DECLARATION (From Our Oxen Correspondent) HAMILTON, Wednesday. A/slflefi whether he advocated a coalition between the farmers and the United Party for the purpose of turning the Government out of office. Mr. W. J. Poison, Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, said to-day he must have been misunderstood as he never mad 6 a statement to this effect. “We wa/v the farmers to be the greatest fighting force in the country,” he said. “Only in this way can muchneeded reforms be brought about. I will support any party that will assist me in the fight for the betterment of the position of the primary producer.” Asked if he intended to stand for the Country Party in the,general election Mr. Poison said he had made no decision yet.
