BURGLAR’S INCOME

NOT REMUNERATIVE That the average income of a burglar is lower than 14s 6d a week, was the statement of Sir Walter GreavesLord, M.P., Recorder of Manchester, at the Manchester City Sessions recently. The discussion on the income of criminals arose out of a case of housebreaking, in which the Recorder warned a man not to run away with the idea that there was money in crime. There was only misery, he said.

Prosecuting counsel said a criminologist has estimated that on an average burglars made 14s 6d a week. The Recorder: Ido not think it is as high as that. You have to take into account not only the period they are out of gaol, but also the time they are in.
