CALLING OF TIME REPLACING OF INJURED PLAYERS A long discussion followed the receipt of a letter from the Referees’ Association dealing with the question of the calling of time at Carlaw Park, at the meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League last evening. Mr. W. Davidson said that there appeared to be some misunderstanding at present as to who was finally responsible for the cessation of the game, the timekeeper or the referee. In the Richmond-Shore game on Saturday last the bell was rung when the ball was in play, and the game immediately ceased. This was contrary to the rules of the League, and he thought that if Richmond liked to protest they would have a good chance of being awarded a replay. Mr. Mincham, the Referees’ Association representative on the committee, said that that body was under the impression that when the bell was rung, then the game ceased immediately. Mr. Longbottom cited an instance where the championship had on one occasion been won after time. The bell went, and as the ball was still in play the game continued. The losers scored a try, and with that took the game and the championship. Many other delegates expressed opinions, and then it was finally decided to instruct the timekeepers to confer with the Referees’ Association and come to some understanding. A letter was received from the Auckland Football Association asking the League if it would be willing to cooperate with the other sports bodies to prevent unfinancial or suspended players in one sport, taking up another sport. It was decided to inform the Football Association that the League was willing to discuss the subject in conference. The chairman of the insurance committee expressed himself alarmed at the number of players who are injured during the second halves of games, and suggested that the committee should allow replacement. Mr. Longbottom was of the opinion that more accidents occurred in the second halves of games because the matches became keener then. Replacement would not remedy this. The primary schools’ committee reported that the schools competition would commence on June 2, and at least seven teams would take part. The recommendation of the advisory committee to play one of the senior A grade competition matches in the fifth series on Monday, June 4, was referred to the clubs for consideration. L. Dixon, Richmond, and E. Marcroft, Otahuhu, were reinstated to the League code. SATURDAY’S FIXTURES The following fixtures were arranged for Saturday:— Senior Grade.—A section: Richmond v.
