Tobacco Thief Admits Robbing Two Shops
SENT FOR SENTENCE L "PATTER ARTIST" AS RECEIVER Pleading guilty to two charges of breaking and entering, Raymond Strong, aged 33, who appeared at the Police Court to-day, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The charges to which Strong pleaded -uilty were: May 4, breaking and entering the shop of James Coupland and stealing cigarettes and a cashbox valued at £5; on May 8, breaking and entering the shop of Robert Martin, and stealing tobacco and goods valued at £-0. John Arthur Crawford, aged 35, was Charged w’ith receiving the second lot of Strong's loot, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. Crawford said that Strong had spent a night in his room without permission. During the night Strong told witness that he had done a ‘‘job/’ and said that the “stuff” was in a cupboard. Witness told Strong to take the loot away, but during the following day witness consented to leave a “parcel” with a person named by Strong. Chief-Detective Hammond: How long have you been out of prison? "One month,” replied witness. "What work have you done?” "A couple of patter turns at the pictures,” replied the witness. Crawford was convicted and remanded to appear for sentence.
