FARMERS CONFER
REMITS DISCUSSED UNION PRESIDENT SPEAKS (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Wednesday. A large volume of business was done at the sitting to-day of the provincial conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. This morning was occupied in discussing remits which were held over pending the arrival of their sponsors, and also the subject of tariff reform. This afternoon Mr. W. J. Poison, Dominion president, gave an address, replying to statements made by the Minister of Finance and the secretary of the Reform League, which he alleged were incorrect. He also reviewed the finances of the country generally. His speeches dealt also with the inordinate amount of borrowing done of recent years and to give point to his statements he quoted freely from the Year Book. Later in the day the political aspect was discussed. To-morrow the election of officers and reading of the treasurer’s report will take place, and at the end of the conference members will be able to attend th© convention of the Country Political League.
