“WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?”
RESCUED MINER’S CRY FOUND SITTING ON RAIL MISSING MEN TOTAL 130 (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Tues. The total of known dead in the Mather, Pennsylvania, mine disaster is now 92. Hope is held out for some of the remaining 130 entombed men, with the discovery of a miner named Prank Bucsha, who was found sitting on a rail. He said: “Where have you been? I have been here for three days now. Had you not come soon, something would choke me.” He had sufficient strength to leave the stretcher upon reaching the surface. Relief squads are working frantically. Fire broke out in the wrecked mine yesterday, and impeded the rescue work for some hours. Later the flames were controlled. Two miners whose story is given credence say they saw a cutting machine sever an electric cable. The sparks thus caused ignited the gas and coaldust below and a series of explosions followed.
