GIRL GUIDES’ CORNER

No finer picture of G irl Guiding and all it stands for could* .have been witnessed when the annual church parade of the Auckland compaalies took place at the Town Hall last Sunday. In all, approximately 1,500 Girl Guides and Brownies attended antJ listened to the inspired address delivered by the Governor-General. The trim, erect bearing of these members of a Great Sisterhood was an impressive sight as they l'-ufid aloft the banners symbolical of -honour, loyalty an' service to Empire Glistening Leaf, our scribe An the Second Otahuhu Company, writO-A.: “During the past month our company has been rather active. On AiWac Day we took part in the parade At which the Governor-General w'AS present for the purpose of unveiliiAg Otahuhu’s new war memorial. “The following Saturday the majority of our company and one of our lieutenants spent a very enjoyable and beneficial day out tracking. At 10 a.m. the company departed to follow up th© trail, which had been laid an hour previously by a leader and second. The trail led approximately eight miles, the destination being Bull’s Island. “Although some of the smaller Guides in the company were rather tired after their tramp, we had a lull muster next day at the dedication of our flag. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. W. T. Currie at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. “On Friday, May 4, we accompanied the First Otahuhu Guides to a camp fire held by the Papatoetoe Guides. Songs were sung by the different companies and several items were given by individual Guides. Altogether we spent a very exciting evening, the time passing away all too quickly.” Swaying Willow, of the First Grey Lynn Company, reports: “We are having a bazaar in a few months’ time and are very anxious to secure funds. For this purpose our Mothers’ Committee decided to hold a social on May 9. Instructions were given to each Guide to invite as many friends as possible and to tell them to bring with them a small picture or drawing representing some street in Auckland. “On the evening appointed the St. Columbo Church Hall was thronged with people, each wearing a piece of paper with some mysterious inscription on it. Then, after each person had obtained a number and given the name of the street represented to the supervisor of the competition, the fun began. The time allowed was 10 minutes and the prize went to one of our patrol leaders;. “After supper the Patrol Cup was presented to the winning patrol for April—the Daffodils. Stars and Second
