“MUCH MARRIED”
AUSTRALIANS EMBARRASS STUDENT PRINCE JAMES LIDDY’S CAREER The people of Australia were really very kind to Mr. James Liddy, the American tenor lead in ‘The Student Prince.” “fTHEY were so kind that it became A positively embarrassing,” declared Mr. Liddy, who arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Marama from Sydney. Not only did they insist, not once, but many times, that Mr. Liddy was a benedict, but they even credited him with a wife and family. “Of course, it saved me a lot of trouble,” said the visitor, who declired that he had never been “so much married in all his life. ‘But when they said my wife and children had arrived to join me,” he added, “I think it was the limit.” Mr. Liddy was determined to “scotch” Dame Rumour, ever a lying jade, just as soon as he put foot in New Zealand. The role of Prince Karl Franz, it romantic hero lead, induced him to make the trip to Australia from the United States, where he has played in similar roles for the last seven years. Mr. Liddy successfully played the prince at the Empire Theatre in Sydnev, until the whole production was purchased by J. C. Williamson, Ltd. He then appeared under that management in its own theatres. Born in Bolton, Lancashire. th“ parents of James Liddy took him to the United States as a small child. Ho claims California as his State, and San Francisco as his home town.
