SEVEN-A-SIDE HOCKEY
KING’S BIRTHDAY TOURNEY Arrangements for the seven-a-side hockey tournament to be held on the King’s Birthday, were advanced to a further stage last evening, when the management committee of the Auckland Hockey Association held its meeting. Mr. A. Playle presided. It was decided to close entries with the secretary at 5.30 p.m., next Monday. Waikato forwarded a challenge for the provincial shield, at present held by Auckland. The match will take place on a date to be arranged. Correspondence was read from the New Zealand Hockey Association relative to the inter-island match. The Nelson Association has made application to have the contest played there, but the matter was deferred until next meeting. Entries for the Xorden Cup competition have been received from Wairoa, Wairarapa and Wanganui. R. Palmer and B. Cohen were granted transfers from Somerville Club to Areta. The executive committee is making every" endeavour to secure a ground for the association. Several properties had come under review. Mr. W. Newsham was appointed sole selector to the association for representative teams. j
