EMPIRE
“BARDELYS THE MAGNIFICENT” “Bardelys the Magnificent,” starring John Gilbert, will be shown tonight at the Empire Theatre. The picture is the screen version of Rafael Sabatini’s popular novel, and may be placed in the same category of colourful fascination as “The Sea Hawk” and “Scaramouche” which were also written by this famous author. # The part of Bardelys, portrayed by Gilbert, is a source of never ending delirljht. Lover, fighter, braggart, ( boaster, he is still a likeable and indeed fascinating figure. He is probably the most intriguing of all the creations of Sabatini’s vivid imagination. Breaking hearts with the same gay irresponsibility and recklessness that his every action betrayed, his wild wager to wed “the coldest lady in France” is made the substance of the story. A war aviation story, “The Lone Eagle,” starring Barbara Kent and Raymond Keane, will also be shown.
