GUIDE OR PROGRAMME?
PUBLISHER CHARGED FORBURY PARK EVENTS Press Association BUNEBIN, Monday. In the Police Court to-day Francis Joseph Haywood pleaded not guilty to publishing a document purporting to be the programme of trotting events at Forbury Park. There was an alternative charge of circulating a document, a publication known as “The Sporting Guide,” with a list of acceptors for the first day. Chief-Betective Cameron said the acceptances were given to newspapers with permission to distribute them to Press Association members, and defendant had no right to copy and publish them. It was claimed that this caused a drop of 739 in the sale of official books at the meeting. Mr. Camercn handed in an Auckland publication which had been prosecuted and convicted. Mr. White, for the defence, said the Auckland publication definitely stated it was a programme, but “The Sporting Guide” did not. People bought it as an indication of turf form. The magistrate in reserving judgment said that at present he did not think the publication purported to be a programme.
