ELLERSLIE NOTES A BUSY MORNING GALLOPING AND JUMPING BEAU CAVALIER’S DASHING EXHIBITION Ideal weather prevailed for training operations at Ellerslie this morning, but overnight rain caused the tracks to be in a soft state. The majority of trainers availed themselves of the use of the course proper (45ft out). Parfait Amour strode over six furlongs, registering 1.19 1-5 for his effort. Thursby, Restaurant and Kelso were associated in a bout over seven furlongs, the first-mentioned pair finishing well clear in 1.41 2-5. Restaurant bears a very bright appearance at present, while Thursby is also in good condition. Prince Papa was run along over half a mile in 56. while for a similar distance Royal Tea recorded 53 4-5. The Tea Tray gelding should strip a very fit horse for his engagements at Ellerslie. A Fine Effort Corinax, with Piet to accompany him, ran from the mile post, being picked up by The Thorn five furlongs from home. With half a mile yet to cover. Piet pulled out-, allowing Corinax and The Thorn to finish up the journey j with very little separating them, although the Cornwall Handicap candidate was undoubtedly doing it_ well. The time for the mile was 1.4 S 4-5, and taking into consideration the state of the going it was a pleasing effort. After the breakfast interval Princess Ronnie (H. Wiggins) and Lomint (Ackerstein) were the first to gallop, tlieilr task being a round, covered in 2.10 1-5, the best of the morning. An even pace was maintained until half way up the straight, when both were being shaken up. Princess Ronnie finishing a length to the good. The first three furlongs were covered in 42, while for the first five 1.11 3-5 was the time. King Emerald, picked up by Eager Rose over the last five furlongs, covered a mile in 1.50 3-5. Respirator and Brampton were on terms at the end of half a mile in 54 1-5. The former has been working well of late, and may run prominently in his engagements at Ellerslie. With nothing between them at the finish, Tidal and Modest Boy moved over seven furlongs in 1.39 2-5, the initial furlong taking 12 4-5, and the first; three 40. Sir Archie Pleases Huephano (C. Carmont) was allowed to secure a break on Sir Archie (B. Deeley), and the latter finished up five furlongs on terms with his companion, who covered four and a-half furlongs. The last half-mile took 55. Sir Archie looks in good order, and went nicely throughout. Have, with Miss Myrtle to assist him, jumped away smartly from the four furlong barrier and strode over the first furlong in 11 4-5, the full distance taking 53. Storm Fiend, with a light boy in the saddle, was well clear of Master Boon (J. Conquest) when the pair got to the end of a task in which the former covered seven furlongs and Master Boon a round. Master Boon registered 31 4-5 for the first two, 44 1-5 for three, 57 four four, 1.11 3-15 for five, and covered the round in 2.11 4-5. Cynthia IST. (S. Tremain) was also given an essay over a similar distance, taking 2.14. The daughter of Juggernaut was under a strong pull for the greater part of the journey. Commencing from the seven-furlong post, Blue Spear, Killute and Royal Trek got over the first furlong in 13, two in 25, three in 40 and came home in 1.39 1-5 for the full journey. A quartet in Kamehameha, Scot Free, Importer and Mashoor, were given an essay over a round, taking 2.12, finishing up at intervals in the order named. Ballymoy 11. was not extended to move over six furlongs in 1.25 3-5, while Judge’s Box covered half a mile in 52 2-5. Phaola and The Fox were sent over five furlongs, moving slowly over the first furlong and finishing up in 1.10 1-5. The stable companions, Kawini and Quincoma, both carrying big weights, jumped off at the mile and a-quarter post, and were timed to cover a round in 2.14. Kawini was noticed to be walking very tenderly when returning to th© stalls. Archibald (R. McTavish) proved much too good for Odin (T. Chaplin), whom he beat by at least three lengths in a gallop of over a round in 2.11 3-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.42. The greatly-improved Marble Mount registered 1.40 for seven furlongs, the last six occupying 1.27. Marble Mount appeared to be going very easily at the end, and he is a possibility for hack hurdle races during the coming meeting. THE HURDLERS Abbot’s Belight (H. Bulieu) jumped four pony hurdjes well, although a trifle high. Rafferty (C. Regan) had a lesson over a round of the schooling hurdles and fenced in most approved style. Golden Glass (G. Holland) jumped two schooling hurdles satisfactorily, but pulled up sore. Notwithstanding that Archeno (E. Garrett) did not give her customarv good exhibition, she pleased much better than Salamander (Healey) in ! a bout over six schooling hurdles. : Salamander rapped all but the last i obstacle. Over the Hill In brilliant fashion Beau Cavalier (E. Garrett) negotiated the full steeplechase course, his exhibition being worthy of the highest praise. A fast pace was maintained throughout, and at each fence the Chesterfield gelding evoked admiration by the lightning like manner in which he fenced. Rahepoto (G. Holland), Glenetta (R. Olive) and Master Noel (J. Sharkey) essayed the steeplechase fences on the flat. The sod-wall was negotiated in good style, but at the first fence of the double Glenetta attempted to run off and jumped the wing. She also refused to take on the stone-wall, and subsequently gave a poor display over two schooling hurdles. Meanwhile Rahepoto and Master Noel had successfully got through their tasks, and if the manner in which Rahepoto jumped the obstacles is any criterion, he will make good over the big country. Wee Marble (E. Garrett) and Clockwork were given a run over the full steeplechase course. The pair were - practically together all the way, Wee Marble leading his companion at the finish. Wee Marble did not jump as well as on former occasions, and at several of the fences lost ground, caused by jumping too high. Clockwork was responsible for a pleasing j display. I Betty Zane CH. Bulieu) and Marita ; (J. Mephan) jumped the steeplechase ! fences on the fiat and were trotted i round the tan to repeat the performance. Betty Zane got in rather close 1 to her fences on occasions, but other- ' wise she gave an exhibition quite as j good as Marita. ! Several visitors arrived from tlrt* I South this morning. Among those j noticed given easy work on the sand i were Aberfeldy, Tuki, Comical and ] Perle de Leon.
