IT DOES NOT PAY TO FINE MOTORISTS
PAPAKURA’S EXPERIENCE MONEYS STILL UNPAID (From Our Own Correspondent) PAPAKURA, Monday. No profit is made by motorists who speed on the Papakura roads, and the Papakura Town Board also finds it a losing proposition to fine them. The suggestion that the Papakura Town Board was benefiting financially from the prosecutions it had instituted against motorists for speeding through Papakura was refuted at last evening’s meeting of the board. Rev. W. C. Wood pointed out that the balance sheet for the past financial year showed that traffic control had cost £ll3 7s 6d, while the amount received in fines was £62 6s. The board was therefore losing money on this phase of its duties. The chairman, Mr. Jas. McCall, and Air. H. E. McEntee concurred, and it was mentioned that a considerable number of fines were still outstanding. The board’s solicitor was instructed to take steps to secure payment.
