Royal Mail Garage Burned at Whakatane

SIX CARS DESTROYED A SPECTACULAR FIRE (From Our Own Correspondent) WHAKATANE, To-day. The most spectacular fire that has occurred in Whakatane for years completely destroyed the Royal Mail Garage last evening. The building, which was a large wooden one, contained six cars, all of which were destroyed, together with stocks of tyres, oils and tools. The brigade made a good save of the adjoining buildings. The cars owned by the Royal Mail Company, the inspector of machinery, Sargood, Son and Ewen and Mr. E. W. Beckett were insured, but those owned by Ruddy and Sloane and Peargram were uninsured.
