ORPHANS’ OPEN SEASON
BIRKENHEAD-NORTHCOTE Founded in 1924, the Birkenhead i and Northcote Orphans’ Club has been a great factor in establishing good fellowship between the two neighbouring boroughs, and at its opening function on Saturday night the president, Mr. J. W. Lethbridge, presided over a large j attendance, including visitors from j various sister clubs. 1 Mr. Lethbridge extended a cordial i welcome to all. Visitors were present ; from the Auckland Savage Club and ; Onehunga, Papakura, Otahuhu and Takapuna Orphans’ Clubs. The Mayor of Northcote, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, and town clerk. Mr. H. W borne Lilly responded to the welcome borne-Lilly responded tot he welcome j on behalf of the visitors. The club’s orchestra, under the baton of Mr. W. E. Webb, contributed musi- | cal items, which were much apprej cia.ted. The programme was as follows:—Song, Bro. Rutledge; humour, i Bro. Powell; string trio, Bros. Lanni- ; gan, Pawson and Swinburne; song, j Bro. Moffatt; humour, Bro. Sharp; I humour, Bro. Rex Tates; song, Bro. : Strange; cello solo, Bro. Fawcett. The club’s secretary. Mr. D. Lawson, ; was warmly congratulated on the iniitial success of his efforts.
