PAKURANGA HUNT
MEET AT CLEVEDON Over SO huntsmen followed the hounds of the Pakuranga Hunt Club, at the first meet of the season, held at Clevedon on Saturday. That the popularity of this sport is growing in the district was evinced by the large ! following on foot. During the meet two kills were made and some excellent runs were had, the last one being a specially good long one, and after a merry chase the quarry found refuge in the showgrounds. A sumptuous morning tea was provided by the ladies of Clevedon, and their efforts were much appreciated by the large number of visitors. Mr. H. Bui lock-Webster, master of the hunt, was in charge, and during the function expressed the members’ appreciation of their hosts’ and hostesses’ kindness, stating that the Clevedon meets were becoming the most popular function of the season. During the meet Dr. Grant, deputymaster of the club, lost his well-known hunter The Sheik. While on one of the runs, the hunter shied while crossing the road, and in attempting to negotiate the fence, got tangled in the wire and fell and broke its neck. A few of the followers had spills
