LIDDELL—COCHRANE A wedding of considerable local interest was celebrated at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Te Kuiti, on Wednesday evening, when Isabella Norah, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cochrane, was married to Mr. Frederick W. P. Liddle, of Te Kuiti, and formerly of Palmerston North. The Rev. Canon Kemptliorne officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of georgette over ivory glace silk, with a tight-fit-ting Victorian bodice and panniered hip effect, trimmed with silver net lace, which was arranged to form a transparent hem A Medici collar, and a bridal veil of palest blush pink and orange blossom coronet were charming accessories. A handsome train—the gift of the bride’s aunt —made of cloth of silver veiled with blush pink tulle and dotted with sprays of orange blossom, was worn. The bride carried a shower bouquet. Miss Rita Liddell, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss F. Adams, acted as bridesmaids, and wore frocks of salmon pink georgette, trimmed with ecru guipure lace inset in the skirts, and with yokes of Victorian bodices. The Bridesmaids also carried bouquets. Mr. C. Bolton was best man and Mr. Gordon, of Auckland, acted as groomsman. After the ceremony between 50 and : 60 guests were entertained at the residence of the bride’s parents.
ENGAGEMENTS The engagement is announced of Agnes, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown, of Kelston, to Mr. Lance Grey, of Remuera. The engagement is announced of Doris Lily, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Burrell, of St. Heliers Bay, Auckland, to Leonard Basil, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Keys, of St. Heliers Bay, Auckland. The engagement is announced of Rita Elizabeth, the second daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Coldham Fussell, of the vicarage, Waiuku, to Walter Scott, the second son of Mrs. J. S. Rutherford, of Whitimoana, Awhitu Central, and the late Mr. J. S. Rutherford. BRIGHT PARTY A very enjoyable little party was held at the residence of Mrs. W J. Nicholson, “Wotton,” Coronation Road, Papatoetoe, on Saturday evening. Mrs. Nicholson and Mrs. G. Wright acted as hostesses. There were about 50 young people present, and a very happy time was spent in community games, competitions and dancing. The successful ones in the competitions were Miss Nora Snelling, Mr. E. Cutforth, Miss Mary Wakelin, and Mr. Stuart Mellsop; consolation prizes were awarded to Misses Diana O’Hara and Truda Richards, Messrs. Shirley Snelling and Vic Smytheman. HAMILTON NOTES (From Our Own Correspondent) Miss M. Chadwick is visiting Rotorua. * * * Mrs. A. Joseph is spending a holiday in the South Island. Mrs. H. C. Ross has returned from a short visit to Auckland. Mrs. T. C. Fraser is holidaying at Taupo. Miss K. Simkin. of Palmerston North; is the guest of Mrs. George Primrose. * * * Miss E>. Fox and Miss M. Bell, of New Plymouth, are visiting Hamilton. Mrs. T. E. Parsons, of Sydney, is in Hamilton. She intends to tour New Zealand. Mrs. Nelson Banks, of Matamata, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Payze. Miss Tui Ring is the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. Bond. Mrs. Frank Mackay has returned to Auckland accompanied by Miss Helen Taylor, of Cambridge. Mrs. R. C. Allen, Miss Patty and Miss Barbara Allen, of Morrinsville, are at Auckland and are staying at Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilson have returned to Hamilton after a holiday spent at Rotorua and the Waikato. Mrs. D. R. Calder, of Cambridge, is in Auckland. CAMBRIDGE HUNT The Cambridge Hunt had its initial meet last Saturday. The day was brimful of good sport. About 400 people took a keen interest, many who did not hunt following in cars. At the conclusion of the afternoon all present were entertained at afternoon tea by the master, Mr. Wynn Brown, and his daughter, Miss A. Brown. Among those ladies who hunted were:—Mesdames Riall (who received the brush), Sorrie, T. Ranstead, W. Ranstead, G. Ranstead, Misses Sorrie Fisher, SoutheyBaker and K. Oliver. Others present were: Mesdames Pickering, Whewell, R. Hannon, N. Banks, Raise, Swayne, Bell, Amsbury, Fisher, Hawkesby, Clemow, W. Stopford, Souter, Crowther, Peake, Rush, Allen, Hanster, Pilkington, Blennerhassett, de Lautour, McNicol, Nealie, Potts, Hines, Porritt, Sands, Aislabie and Misses Crowther (2), Clemow, Hart, Bertelsen (2), Banks, Allen (2), Sands, Finlayson, Beatson, Buckland, Souter. SOCIAL EVENING On Wednesday evening Mrs. Alexander, wife of the president of the Waikato Winter Show, and Mrs. W. Paul, wife of the secretary, entertained all those superintendents and stew r ards of the different departments of the Winter Show in the concert chamber of the Show Buildings. A very enjoyable programme of music, recitations and solo dancing had been arranged by Mrs. H. C. Ross, those taking part being Mrs. A. W. Green, Miss M. McKenzie, Miss D. Clapham,. Misses R. Johnstone, Mr. H. Saunders, Mr. E. Parker and Mr. K. Eade. The accompanist was Mrs. H. C. Ross. Among those present were: Mesdames Wallace, Fow, Greenslade, H. H. Clark, A. W. Green, W. Paul, Alexander, F. Snell, Bennett, Clapham, O’Grady, Davison, Eade, Cowles, de Latour, Runciman, Reekie, Meredith, Cleveley, H. Baker, Roth well H. Douglas A. SURPRISE PARTY A surprise birthday party visited Mrs. J. Oliphant in Te Awamutu on Thursday evening. The party was organised by Mrs. L. Chamberlain and Mrs. Dawson, and very quickly eight tables of bridge players were arranged. During supper Mrs. Oliphant was the recipient of a birthday gift of an aluminium steamer and a bridge cloth. Those present included: Mesdames L. Chamberlain, Ashmore, B. Mandeno, H. Lord, A. J.
