STRAND

“THE MERRY WIDOW” That Auckland picturegoers have excellent taste in pictures, is eloquently proved by the thousands of patrons who have left the Strand Theatre enthusiastic in their praises for “The Merry Widow.” Haunting memories of the lilting music, poetic drama, and romance of “The Merry Widow” still linger fondly in th© minds of most of us. This dazzling gem of ideal entertainment has been brought to the screen by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for its lovers to again fall in love with its colourful romance, and to bring delight to the thousands who did not see it in its stage form. The cosmopolitan gaiety of “The Merry Widow,” the dazzling spectacle, impressive pageantry, and the delicate but poignant drama that is drawn like a golden thread throughout the entire production, are presented with unerring artistry. Preceding the screening of “The Merry Widow,” is a bright prologue. Miss Ina Bosworth is the solo violinist, and Mile. Valeska and Mr. Len Wilson are the dancers. The musical programme provided by Eve Bentley and her Strand Symphony Orchestra is an entertainment by itself. Throughout the evening, selections from ‘T‘he Merry Widow,” , orchestral score are played. An important event will take place to-night, when “Miss New Zealand” (Miss Dale Austen) will appear in person on the Stage at the Strand Theatre, in conjunction with her picture, “Miss New Zealand in Movieland.”
