OUT WITH COMMUNISTS

HUGHES ADVISES BRUCE RISKY ARBITRATION BILL (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. Noon. CANBERRA, To-day. Mr. William Hughes, resuming the debate on the amending Arbitration Bill, described the provision regarding strikes and lock-outs as the most dangerous piece of legislation conceivable. It was a sort of two-edged weapon which would drive the unionists into one big union to safeguard themselves against industrial civil war. The Attorney-General must see that he could not imprison thousands of men who defied the Government. Th 0 great danger to-day was that Communism was deliberately working on the malleable clay of society, for the destruction of civilisation. They were equally the enemies of the industrial unions. The Government should set up machinery to deal with men like Mr. Jock Garden, secretary of the Sydney Trades and Labour Council, as a. surgeon deals with cancer. Mr. Hughes supported the Bill generally. The debate was adjourned.
