GERMAN LEADER DEAD
DR. RUDOLPH HEINZE PASSES HEAD OF PEOPLE’S PARTY (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P.A.—United Service) BERLIN, Thursday. The death occurred in Saxony today of Dr. Rudolf Heinze, leader of the German People’s Party. His >- mise was due to heart failure the completion of his election campaign. The late Dr. Rudolf Heinze was born at Oldenburg in July, 1865. During the war he was from 1916 to 191 S Undersecretary of State in the Turkish Ministry of Justice, but was recalled in July 1918, to become Saxon Minister of Justice. Within living memory no one openly holding Liberal views had become a Minister in Saxony, and Dr. Heinze was one of the National Liberal leaders there. After the revolution Dr. Heinze did not unite with the Progressives to form the Democrat Party, but was one of the founders of the German People’s Party. When in 1920 the Coalition was broken up Dr. Heinze was entrusted with the formation of a new Cabinet. However, he declined the task when the Socialists refused to enter the Government. Herr Fehronbach then formed a Cabinet in which Dr. Heinze became Minister of Justice—an office which he also held in Dr. Cuno’s Government of November, 1922. At the end of October, 1923, in consequence of the disturbances in Saxony, Dr. Heinze was sent there as commissioner of the Central Government, and with the aid of the Reichswehr, under General Muller, abolished the Socialist-Communist Cabinet of Herr Zeigner.
